November 10: Bowery Residents' Committee Hurricane Shelter EmergencyCleanup

Join New York University in supporting the Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC) Hurricane Shelter Emergency Cleanup, a post-storm effort to return an emergency storm shelter to normal operations, including positive programs and interventions for some of New York City's most vulnerable populations

The Bowery Residents' Committee faciltiy at 131 W 25th Street served as an emergency shelter for a huge number of BRC residents who had been evacuated from assessment shelters during the storm. Because of the very tight, unprecedented living conditions, the eight-floor facility is in dire need of a thorough cleaning.

Volunteers are needed for mopping, sweeping, washing walls, cleaning windows, and other cleaning tasks to help BRC resume its mission: empowering individuals to permanently overcome poverty, addiction, physical and mental illness, homelessness, and unemployment through a wide range of programs.

Saturday, November 10, 2012, @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
NYU will provide cleaning supplies for volunteers to use during the project.
